This has appeared on the internet, tweeted from the account of Michael Cera. Twitter has not verified this account as actually belonging to Cera. As most of the tweets are really odd, I have my suspicions.

I can only hope and pray that this development is no longer arrested.

It's funny, I really thought that Michael Cera would be incapable of playing this character, but looking at these trailers, I get goosebumps at how true to the character he is. The whole thing seems like a great service to C. D. Payne's masterpiece.

As far as I'm concerned, this movie looks perfect. And this is coming from the one of the biggest fans of the book around. Hopefully they won't make the Francois personality the actual plot of the big, since it is just a couple chapters worth of plot, but I CAN'T WAIT.

Review: YEAR ONE

20 years ago, this would have been the funniest movie ever made.

Unfortunately, it's 2009, and an awkward Michael Cera and a crazy eyebrowed Jack Black are not enough to keep this movie's humor from being very, very outdated.

Hurwitz to Direct?

More AD movie news.

So, in the last update I said that Ron Howard would be directing the Arrested Development movie.

Well, now it seems that Mitchell Hurwitz himself, the creator of, and genius behind the show will be making his directorial debut.

It seems a lot of changes have been going on, which is good. That tells me the movie is actually being worked on.

Look for the Arrested Development movie 2010.

The Independent AD Doc: Final Trailer

Hey kiddos,

So as you probably already know, I am a giant fan of the late Arrested Development, and the good people over at the Independent Arrested Development Documentary have released the final trailer to their project.

I have been emailing with the guys back and forth for almost a year now, and they are just great. Just a couple of fans, just like me, and they want nothing more than to spread the joy that the show was, and raise some education about it. It's also important to note that the entire thing is self-funded, and completely out of their own pockets.

Review: EXTREME MOVIE

"Penis? I haven't heard that word for a long time. I usually just call it dinner."

Yep, this is probably the worst movie I have ever seen, ever. If possible, this is worse than all of the movies that Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (Date Movie, Epic Movie, Everything-that-happened-in-pop-culture-in-the-last-five-years Movie) have ever made put together. The most amazing thing about it is that this Straight-To-DVD piece of garbage was not, in fact, made by the aforementioned filmmakers. This film was directed by Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson. I haven't seen anything else by them, and now I never want to. The film was written by, and I suppose I should take a sharp inward breath before I recite the mammoth list of people that piled their vacuous ideas into this script, Adam Jay Epstein, Andrew Jacobson, Will Forte, John Solomon, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, Erica Rivinoja, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller.

Release Date in Revolt

I know it seems that lately this blog has been all fun and games, what with all the good news of Arrested Development, Watchmen, and Year One footage.

But here comes a nice little nugget of bad new: it looks like the anticipated February 2009 release of one of my most anticipated films, Youth in Revolt, is no longer a reality. After the initial December '08 release date, it was pushed back to February, and now with no pictures or trailers or promotion...

Well I suppose I can wait a bit longer, if they do justice to one of the best books I've ever read. Be sure to check out Mark's early review.

Not So Arrested Development

Anyone who has read my posts on this blog should know how I feel about the late Arrested Development. I have said repeatedly that it was the greatest show ever to air on TV, and I still believe that with every bone in my body.

Ever since the final episode of the series aired in February of 2006, fans have been eagerly expecting the feature film that the aforementioned episode eluded to. Then, for a period of almost three years, nothing really happened, minus the occasional interview in which Jason Bateman would say that they were all interested in doing it. There was even an Independent AD Documentary Project. in the works.

Well, after all this waiting, it seems that the development of this movie is no longer that arrested. I don't want to speak to soon, but it looks like this movie is finally happening. Ron Howard, the producer, and narrator of the series, has signed on to direct. Mitchell Hurwitz, the genius creator has written a draft of the script. Almost every single original cast member has signed on to reprise their roles, even the more minor characters.

It looks like this movie is actually going to happen.

Review: YOUTH IN REVOLT

Let me start off by stating my criteria for this review. I have NOT seen a movie with Michael Cera as the starring role. Also, I have NOT read the book Youth In Revolt. So needless to say I went into this film not expecting anything. After seeing the film and finding out things about the book, I want to tell those fans of the book that this is not a 100% faithful adaptation. There are many characters that are left out, as well as plot points. The story of Nick Twisp centers around one thing and one thing only, Sheeni Saunders.

I Don't Think I'll Revolt

Finally, a book to movie adaptation that I am not deathly afraid of.

As a hardcore fan of C.D. Payne's Youth In Revolt, it would be difficult to win my approval for the film adaptation.

The book is about 14 year-old Nick Twisp, an extremely intelligent, and extremely horny boy. He has two missions in life; read more books, and lose his virginity to the ever elusive Sheeni Saunders.

It is easily one of the funniest books I have ever read, and it is also one of the most graphic. If they were to make this movie true to the book, it would be rated X. However, they want to make money on this thing, and I think MIchael Cera doing an X rated movie would be, for lack of a better phrase, the end of his career.

So here we have MIchael Cera saddled with a character that he has never played before - someone charismatic, and someone with the vocabulary of someone 40 years older than him.

And you know what? I think he can do it. Not because I want him to be able to. Because I really do. I know he has played the same character over and over. But, it is because the script has always called for it. I believe in my heart he can pull it off. So Michael, if you are reading this, DON'T LET ME DOWN.

As for Sheeni, I don't know what to expect. The character of Sheeni is very complex, and not just anyone can play her. If you've read the book, you know what I mean. If you haven't, think of Hermione Granger, but way more promiscuous. Portia Doubleday is cast as Sheeni. I don't know her work, and I hope she can make it happen.

As for the rest of the cast, I think it looks great. We have Ari Graynor (who I mentioned was great in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist), Steve Buscemi, Jonathan B. Wright, Jean Smart, Fred Willard, Justin Long, Ray Liotta, and Zach Galifianakis.

Miguel Arteta is signed on to direct. The only two things I have seen of his are single episodes of The Office and Freaks and Geeks. And I can't recall an episode I didn't like of either. So...

Sounds good to me. I look forward to this movie greatly.


Oh, and if you haven't read the book, go ahead and pick it up. It's among the best books I've read.

Review: NICK AND NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST

Don't let this picture fool you; Michael Cera is not this happy in the movie. He smiles about three times, and it never lasts very long.

His character is so monotone and sad the whole movie that is impossible to establish a likeable main character. Not to say Cera didn't do a great job with what he had.

Here's what I make of this movie: Hollywood decided they wanted to make a film that looks independent. It's as simple as that. And because of this incredible paradox, it is nowhere near as good as it would have been... if it was independent.

Why it's called Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, I have no idea. They both like music, but that seems to be the only clue.

Nick (Michael Cera) and Tris (Alexis Dziena) just broke up (what Nick saw in Tris in the first place is beyond me, as she just might be the worst person in the world). Nick is upset. As I said, he never really cracks a smile until the end of the movie. He meets a girl named Norah (Kat Dennings) one night at a show his band is playing. They hit it off, and the rest of the movie is about Nick learning to forget about Tris, and learning to love Norah. And it's not hard to love Norah - Kat Dennings totally steals the show here. She is really good, really real, and really funny. It makes her so much more likeable than Nick, to the point where you wish the movie was about her.

Imagine if Forgetting Sarah Marshall was set in New Jersey, with high school seniors. That's what this movie is.

Oh, and not nearly as good.

Not to say it was the worst movie I've ever seen. It has moments where I was laughing, and Ari Graynor's performance is truly fantastic, but with Michael Cera's newfound stamp of credibility, I thought this would be Juno quality.

Apatow Goes Prehistoric, With a Hint of Caddyshack

It seems that the old 80's comedic forces of Harold Ramis are back, and this time under Judd Aptatow's wing.

Year One is the result.

Harold Ramis is writing and directing this new primordial romp, and he and Apatow are sticking in a great looking cast. Starring in the two main roles are Jack Black and Michael Cera as Zed and Oh, respectively. They play two cavemen who go looking for the meaning of life.

Cera and Black have said that the movie is basically a Monty Python style comedy instead of a 'Knocked Up' style comedy, and set in biblical times.

Other Apatow favorites such as Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Paul Rudd, and Bill Hader have been cast, as well as many other great names in comedy like Hank Azaria, David Cross, Vinnie Jones, and Oliver Platt.

Year One hits theaters Summer '09, and I will definitely be there.
