Ad Classic: LANCE ACORD, THE FORCE, VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT

Sometimes you do not need much to have a profound effect on people, and a great piece of fiction can come from some very unexpected origins. We started this “ad classics” as a manner of celebrating the work of great filmmakers working outside film itself, as well as a matter of proving that a great story, and characters, can be told in 30 seconds. I quote us when I say; “a commercial is a movie told in thirty seconds (sometimes up to two minutes); nowadays it feels some movies are commercials told in ninety minutes (sometimes even longer)”.

Directed by Lance Acord, whose cinematography credits include Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, and Where the Wild Things Are, Volkswagen’s The Force became an unexpected hit when it had 13 million views before it even aired! That is the power of a good campaign. Afterwards it has become the most watched commercial ever! So my guess is that you have probably already watched it. If not here it is:

Wilder's Picks - The Best of '09

Hey internet,

Seeing that 2009 is coming to a close, and I write for a movie blog, there seemed only one thing appropriate to do.

Here are, in my opinion, the top ten best films of 2009. Keep in mind that I HAVE NOT SEEN Inglourious Basterds, Moon, or The Hurt Locker. I imagine all of those belong somewhere on this list in place of some, but I simply have not seen them.

Ehem.

Review: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Some people will argue this is the best film thus far of 2009. I am almost inclined to agree.

Spike Jonze did an absolutely superb job on this one folks, and I really mean that. Where the Wild Things Are captures all the spirit of its childrens book counterpart without any of the cheesiness you would expect, and a surprising amount of drama. Who knew that Hollywood still has the ability to produce raw emotion?

Trailer: Where The Wild Things Are!

So this morning the trailer for Spike Jonzes Where The Wild Things Are was premiered on the Ellen show and shortly after hit the internet.

The use of the band Arcade Fire for the trailer makes it seem even more magical. This film looks amazing. Hopefully the trailer isn't the best thing, but it definitely got me a lot more excited than I was when I first heard of this movie being made. The monsters look real and that's the most important hurdle that they had to get over. The trailer is below please watch it for yourself and comment with what you think!

Where The Wild Things Are is set to release on October 16, 2009.
