So it is once again that time of the year when everyone wants to shout out their opinion on which should be named the ten best movies of the year. If you think this blog is any different to all those rants you are mistaken; we will undeniably nominate ten movies as The Movie Watch’s “Top Ten of 2012”, as we have done in the past. But never the less we do hope our list will be somewhat enlightening in terms of tastes and options. And once again we do not intend to rank our choices in terms of elitist taste; these are just some movies we highly recommend you don’t miss, and probably best you catch before awards season.
With no further ado, these are The Movie Watch’s Top Ten of 2012 in no particular order, other than alphabetical. Some have not been reviewed, we have been lazy this last few months, but reviews will come up ASAP. Anyway, here is our list:
2011 is one of the best, and oddest film years in recent memory. On one hand, while there were numerous great films year round, none of them particularly sticks out the way something like Slumdog Millionaire, Avatar, Inglourious Basterds, Inception, Toy Story 3, all did in the last few years. In terms of big movies it was actually a very poor year; there was a record number of sequels, threequels, fourthquels, fifthquels and prequels; 27 in total, not including remakes. There was even an octoquel. But besides that said eighth Harry Potter Film that we waited a decade for none were memorable, and at least two were essentially a remake of the previous installment (Hangover 2 and Transformers 3).
And yet at the same time there was a major breakthrough in independent filmmaking. For the past few years online movie watching, particularly Netflix, has brought the realization that the market for such films is huge; it is just not as big as the market for Avatar. Nevertheless Indie films can use a limited release as a form of promotion, and earn their money back, off theaters. Either on iTunes, Redbox, Netflix, DVD sales, whatever. And thus the public’s legal accessibility to such films has greatly increased.
It has been an interesting year; and to top it off it might be the first time that a silent movie takes Best Picture, since the first Academy Awards were held. Anyways, here is our Top Ten and a half for 2011, presented in no particular order besides alphabetical:
Here's my list for the best films of 2010. I would like to quickly note that I haven't seen The Fighter, but I imagine it's not too different from every other great boxing movie. I will readily admit that Jose picked most of these, I've just re-ordered them, and added some that I hope Jose hasn't seen. And finally, haven't put True Grit on here simply because I don't think it belongs. It was really well made, and Jeff Bridges was fantastic. But it left me with nothing. The following ten left me with quite a bit.
So it's the time to see what last year brought us, now that we are recovering from those New Year party hangovers. Here is what we at the movie watch see as our favorites of 2010. It was a good year for movies I have to say:
So as of yesterday, for the first time since its creation, all of the top ten most watch YouTube videos have over 100 million views. Granted YouTube videos, aren’t precisely movies but they are part of the trash-media/cinematic culture of today. Together these ten videos (about 1 hour of material) have over 1 billion views. That is a fact that I believe to be quite impressive. So since we have not posted a YouTube pick in quite a while, I will post ten today. So without further ado here are the YouTube’s top ten as of April 18th 2010:

Yes there is a Spanish video on the list (and some in other languages) showing how the Internet and YouTube is a world phenomenon.

She is just so weird.
Number 8. Miley Cyrus’ Party in the U.S.A. (109,370,701 views)
This is the reason 12-16 year olds are such a powerful demographic; they are the world’s top consumers. They have also removed the embed by request but here is the link:

Number 7: Jeff Dunham – Achmed the Dead Terrorist (110,476,854 views)
I was surprised at this one. Out of all the terrorist jokes in the net I would have expected a JibJab video.
Number 6: Hahaha – Small daring boy (115,293,400 views)
Scientific research shows that babies are genetically designed to make adults want to give them attention. If this video does not prove it, I am not sure what will.
Number 5: PitBull’s I Know You Want Me (115,464,496 views)
Sexy women and a catchy tune: In my opinion Destination Calabria should have been in its place. But whom am I to complain; the people have spoken and PitBull is preferred.
Number 4: Miley Cyrus’ 7 Things (115,911,086 views)
Yep that corporate Disney drone that teaches 12 year olds how to pole dance has two videos. Just in case you did not believe me earlier when I said 12-16 are rabid ‘I wanna these, I wanna that’ crowd.
Number 3: Evolution of Dance (115,911,086 views)
If you though Napoleon Dynamite had good moves you haven’t seen nothin’. This is hard proof that we have been facing a dance crisis since the mid 90s.
Number 2: Charlie bit my finger – again! (180,222,573 views)
Yes there had to be a sequel on the list. And further proof of how cute babies can be and how exploitative their parents can get.

LADY GAGA’S BAD ROMANCE (183,497,434)
This is impressive. Lady Gaga has been around for about a year and she already tops veterans. I am not sure what this proves; are people that attracted to weirdness? Whatever just enjoy the music is overplayed but the people seem to demand it.
