Review: MIRROR MIRROR

There is something delightful about a movie in which the handsome Prince insists that it must be him who saves the lovely damsel, and not vice-versa, because “it does well with carefully studied focus groups”. This comes right after the damsel, Snow White (Lily Collins, daughter of Phil Collins) exclaims that “it’s time to change that ending”. Mirror Mirror is the type of self-reflexive, sly in-joke fairytale within the tradition of the original - just the original and not the sequels - Shrek, and it carries a freshness we haven’t seen since.

I never quite understood why those protesters a month back were occupying Wall Street. Wall Street, as a symbol, is a carnivorous monster bent on hoarding money--the most quantitative element of hedonism. Wall Street failed nobody anymore than a shark fails swimmers by taking a bite out of them. We don’t blame sharks though; we blame the lifeguards.

Review: THE SOCIAL NETWORK

Like every David Fincher film I've seen, The Social Network thrives at a pace so well-suited for the movie, you feel as though the film itself is one of the characters. It's one of those movies where you can't help but marvel that every aspect of its making was just done right. It's one of those experiences where you often forget you're in a movie, staring helpless at the screen, hanging on every word. It's a fantastically well-made film.
