Can the Summer Superhero craze be coming to an end?

            Is the end of the superhero craze that has plagued the box office for the last decade approaching? It may be so. Last weekend Green Lantern became the second superhero movie to under-perform at the box office during its opening weekend. We still have Captain America to go but if it stumbles it is likely studios will begin to loose their affinity for what has been their cash cow of choice. This brings up two questions: what will happen to the series of reboots, sequels, prequels, and rehashes that Marvel and Warner were allegedly planning to make? And if the superhero is indeed coming to an end what will replace it?

PARAMOUNT PICTURES OPTIONS EARTHSEED

HOLLYWOOD, CA (March 29, 2011) – Paramount Pictures Film Group President
Adam Goodman today announced that the studio has optioned the novel EARTHSEED,
with Melissa Rosenberg (“TWILIGHT,” “Dexter,” “HIGHLANDER”) attached to pen the
script and produce through her Tall Girls Productions.

Winners (or Losers) of These Year’s Razzies

            Keeping up with tradition, the Razzie awards were announced yesterday on the day before the Oscars. Generally the Razzies tend to be as predictable as the Oscars, and this year was no exception. The overwhelming winners (or losers) of this year were M. Night Shaymalan’s The Last Airbender, which took both Worst Picture Worst Director and the new category Worst use of 3D, and Sex and the City 2 taking Worst Actress, the Four “Gal Pals” although, and Worst Cast, the entire cast. Without much further ado here are these year’s worst of the worst:

           

Razzie Nominations Announced

Following up with award seasons, the 31^st Golden Razzie Award nominations have been announced this week. For those of you who don’t know the Razzie’s are the anti-awards that celebrate the worst pieces of trash cinema has to offer. Like the Academy Awards, the Razzies tend to favor, or rather disfavor, high profile movies, stars and the like. Here are the nominations for this year’s greatest losers.
