Review: BRIDESMAIDS

            There is a lot I could talk about Bridesmaids. When the trailer first surfaced, I posted my concern that the film looked like a rehash of most of the Apatow-gang “dude flicks” but centered around a female lead instead. My main concern was not about the film simply being a rehash but that judging from the trailer, the Apotow-gang, who for the most part is made up of dudes, did not get women at all. I might have judged a little too early. But, although I am still not entirely convinced they do, Bridesmaids remains a very funny movie.

Review: DESPICABLE ME

Universal's Despicable Me is exactly what I expected out of a non-PIXAR animated summer release, though perhaps a bit funnier than it should be.

Despicable Me's hero is Gru, a villain. He doesn't want world domination or to kill thousands of innocent people however. All he wants really, is some respect. Gru is easy to empathize with, and Steve Carell really brings him to life, perhaps more than anyone else could. I usually don't care for big celebrities in voice acting roles but Carell does a very good job with Gru, giving him a humorous eastern European accent that works.

It's not really a poster, but it's exciting.


No release date yet, but I can't wait.

Review: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

(Before I begin raving about this movie, I want to note that it was literally impossible to find a poster that doesn't have "3D" on it. Add this to the fact that DreamWorks has decreed that no theaters may show the movie in 2D if they don't allow it in 3D, and you see how the 3D movement is similar to propaganda of the worst kind. Ehem.)

I don't know if DreamWorks is back on track with their animation or it's just Chris Sanders that is the master of his craft, but How To Train Your Dragon is absolutely fantastic.

Review: EXTRACT

You know what would be totally sweet?

If Mike Judge made a different movie.

He's a really funny guy with a great take on the world, but it's gotten to the point where I feel like all of his movies are the same. After Idiocracy flopped, I wouldn't be surprised if he went and tried to write something similar to his cult classic, Office Space. In fact, it's so similar that it just irritated me for most of the movie. If it were not for some really good performances, I might have hated it.

Review: ADVENTURELAND

What is an adventure? It's hard to define, but one thing is for sure; it cannot be planned.

Now Superbad is among my all-time favorite comedies, and Adventureland is just as great, if not better... and it couldn't be more different than Superbad if it tried.
